I am fortunate enough to be involved in a collaboration effort to create the Scaled Agile Framework (SAF, pronounced “safe”), a proven, publicly available framework and website for applying Lean and Agile practices at enterprise scale.
It is our hope that the website we are building will give agilists around the world a resource they can use to successfully implement agile in an enterprise scale environment. In addition to incorporating the experience we all have gained through helping our clients, we also plan to weave in a variety of agile reference materials from others to augment the framework itself.
We (Dean Leffingwell, Alex Yakyma, Drew Jemilo, Colin O’Neill and myself) kicked off the collaboration effort with 3 intense days of work at Dean Leffingwell’s house in Colorado. During our sessions, we formalized our strategy, worked on infrastructure things like building the website itself and we cranked out a ton of preliminary content.
It was an experience I’ll remember for a very long time and I truly believe our efforts have the potential to make a big difference in the industry. We have witnessed first hand the positive impact it has made on a number of companies and we believe the economic times of today coupled with the fact that consumers are driving more and more innovation (vs. waiting for companies to do it) will only hasten the pace for other companies embracing agile throughout the industry. By building a community, we hope that everyone will be able to collectively grow together.
I’ve included a gallery of pictures from the weekend for your enjoyment…
